Vishal Abiraj, MD, internal medicine and infectious disease physician. Graduated from medical school at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad then decided to pursue a residency in internal medicine. He was certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and got accepted at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he completed 3 years of residency and 1 year as a Chief Resident, then became board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in 2013. After working for 3 years as a hospitalist, Dr. Abiraj wanted to further sub-specialize in Infectious Diseases and completed his fellowship for this at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, becoming board certified in Infectious Diseases in 2019 and then went on to obtain AAHIVM (American Academy of HIV medicine) certification in 2021 while working at the RWWC. Dr. Abiraj enjoys seeing his patients feel encouraged and remain hopeful knowing that they have achieved, through treatment and staying in care, the ability to get their HIV virus to remain consistently undetectable and so under control. The best piece of advice is from his mother: If you want to achieve anything in life, you have to work hard for it. Put in the effort and it will work out.
